Trieste Airport (TRS), also called Ronchi dei Legionari, is in Friuli Venezia Giulia between Trieste and Udine. Its intermodal hub has a railway station and bus terminal connected to the passenger terminal by a covered pedestrian route. This makes the airport station a useful starting point for Tarvisio, without first travelling into Trieste city. Slovenian destinations need a different connection plan: Kranjska Gora is close to the Italian frontier, Bovec lies in the Soča Valley, and Vogel is above Lake Bohinj. A map showing nearby mountains does not imply a direct winter airport coach. Compare the complete journey to the booked village, including any border crossing and reserved final ride. When choosing an arrival time, you can compare flights to Trieste Airport and check whether it leaves enough time for the last coach or train into the mountains.
Follow signs from arrivals to the intermodal hub across the covered walkway. In the Trenitalia planner select Trieste Airport, not Trieste Centrale. A bus connection and a train connection can use different onward hubs; keep time for collecting skis and finding the platform.
For Slovenia, confirm rental-car border permission and the open winter road. Do not accept a shortcut over the Vršič pass without checking closure information. Kanin’s Bovec cableway is not operating until further notice; verify the destination before booking a ski holiday.
These approximate road distances help you shortlist a destination. The exact distance depends on your hotel and the road used; check live directions before travel.

Compare flights before planning the ground journey. An arrival time that lines up with a coach or train can simplify the trip; if you land late, check the last onward service. You can compare flights to Trieste Airport and then return here to plan the transfer to the mountains.
