About skiing in Smugglers’ Notch

Smugglers’ Notch is on the Jeffersonville side of the mountain pass, separate from Stowe. Its village and upper-mountain bases serve different ski plans. The in-resort shuttle can help after check-in, but does not supply the airport leg. The winter closure of the pass is central to planning a road journey; a summer map distance can be misleading.

MARKED PISTESThe official map describes 78 trails across three mountains, plus additional woods between trails.
ALTITUDEThree mountain sectors have different lift terrain; check the official map for current elevation details.

Ski areas and terrain

Morse

Village-side learning and family progression skiing.

Sterling

An upper-mountain base with a varied trail network.

Madonna

Longer and more challenging terrain; use the current trail report.

Piste difficulty: Morse suits learning and progression; Sterling and Madonna add intermediate and demanding terrain.

Planning your arrival: Give the village check-in or upper-mountain lesson location. Approach from Jeffersonville, never across the closed notch from Stowe in winter.
