About skiing in Starý Smokovec
Starý Smokovec is a compact High Tatra transport hub with access to the Hrebienok funicular and the small Jakubkova lúka learning ski area. It is useful for a winter stay combining beginner lessons, walking and trips to other Tatra ski centres. It should not be described as a large lift-linked downhill domain: travelling to Tatranská Lomnica or Štrbské Pleso is a separate railway or road journey.
Ski areas and terrain
Jakubkova lúka
Local learner skiing; check the season’s lift operation and lesson meeting point.
Hrebienok
Funicular access for winter excursions and designated activities; do not equate a funicular ticket with a large downhill ski pass.
TEŽ interchange
Electric trains branch here toward Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso; check the direction and last return.
Piste difficulty: Jakubkova lúka is the local learning option. For extensive intermediate or advanced downhill skiing, compare the other High Tatra centres and their separate travel.
Planning your arrival: Choose the hotel, Jakubkova lúka lesson point or Hrebienok funicular base. A village station arrival may still need an uphill walk or local ride; larger ski centres require separate travel.
